Entrances and Exits for July/August 2013

Here are the month’s executive and artistic role changes across the country.

Lincoln Center in New York City has named its next president: Broadway producer Jed Bernstein. He takes over for Reynold Levy, who is stepping down in January after 11 years at the helm. Bernstein recently co-produced the Broadway revivals of Hair, Driving Miss Daisy with Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones, and Equus with Daniel Radcliffe.

Mimi O’Donnell will be the artistic director of New York City’s Labyrinth Theater Company starting next season, having shared the post with Stephen Adly Guirgis and Yul Vázquez since 2009. Guirgis and Vázquez will continue at the theatre in an advisory capacity.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Massachusetts welcomes Elizabeth Kegley as its new executive director, who begins her tenure in July. Kegley is former managing director of Kitchen Dog Theatre in Dallas.

Michael Bloom has stepped down as artistic director of Cleveland Play House in Ohio, after nine years at the helm. Associate artistic director Laura Kepley will serve as interim artistic director during the 2013–14 season.

Neil Barclay has assumed the role of executive director at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, where Southern Rep is currently in residence. Barclay, recently a senior consultant at the Los Angeles office of the Arts Consulting Group, has taken over for Jay Weigel—the organization’s longest-running executive director, having held the position since 1996.

About Face Theatre in Chicago has selected Andrew Volkoff to replace outgoing artistic director Bonnie Metzgar. Volkoff is the former associate artistic director of Genesius Theatre Group in New York City and Barrington Stage Company in Massachusetts.

Jane Mandel, founder and artistic director of New Jersey’s Luna Stage, has stepped down, after leading the theatre for 20 years. Associate artistic director Cheryl Katz has been promoted and will succeed Mandel.

American Repertory Theater in Massachusetts has announced that William Russo will be its next managing director. Russo will begin his tenure in July. Formerly the managing director of New York Theatre Workshop, Russo succeeds ART’s interim managing director Diane Borger.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater welcomed a new managing director in June: Chad M. Bauman. Having previously served as the associate executive director at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., Bauman replaced Dawn Helsing Wolters.

Keri Kellerman has started work as the managing director of the Playwrights’ Center in Minneapolis. Kellerman is the former managing director of Intiman Thea­tre in Seattle.

Jon Reynolds is now a ringleader of dog & pony dc in Washington, D.C. A dramatist and actor, Rey­nolds takes the post after developing and performing in several projects with the group. He now shares leadership with Rachel Grossman and Lorraine Ressegger-Slone.

Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma, Calif., has named Terence Keane its first-ever executive director. He joins artistic director Elly Lichenstein in leading the company. Keane is the former director of public relations and associate director of marketing and communications at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, located one hour south.

Elizabeth Carlson is the new artistic director of Naked Angels in New York City. Carlson joins the organization after working as a freelance director and producer. She spent this season as a resident director at another Manhattan company, the Flea Theater.

James D. Palmer is stepping down as the artistic director of Red Tape Thea­tre in Chicago. A founding ensemble member of the theatre, Palmer will be entering Brown University/Trinity Repertory Company’s MFA directing program in Rhode Island this fall.

Mary C. Huntington is leaving the Nora Theatre Company in Massachusetts after 25 seasons as the theatre’s artistic director. Huntington co-founded the Nora in 1988.

Carol North will be resigning as the artistic director of Missouri’s Metro Theater Company next year. North plans to stay until the beginning of February; she became a member of the company as a performer in 1977 and has held her current title since 1980.
