United States Artists has announced its 34 USA Fellows for 2014. The awards are given to artists across all disciplines and come with $50,000 each to support their practice and professional development.

Out of the 34 artists recognized, three work in the theatre: playwrights Kia Corthron, Sibyl Kempson (pictured at left) and Sigrid Gilmer. Corthron, based in New York City, was named a USA Jane Addams Fellow; Kempson, also based in NYC, is a USA Rockefeller Fellow; and Gilmer, based in Los Angeles, is a USA Ford Fellow.

“We are honored to present this year’s fellows, a group of artists who were selected through a rigorous, highly competitive process,” said United States Artists CEO Carolina Garcia Jayaram in a statement. “Our fellows embody originality across every creative discipline, celebrating the broad range of artistic practices in every region of the county, and cultivating a creative ecology that is diverse in age, race, religion, gender and sexual orientation.”

The recipients were chosen from a pool of 116 nominated artists. USA was founded in 2006 and, through funding from a range of philanthropic foundations and individuals, has distributed $19.1 million to 405 artists via the USA Fellows program.
