Pillsbury House Theatre Announces 2015 Season

Recent plays by Marcus Gardley and Lucas Hnath, a world premiere from Tracey Scott Wilson, comprise the theatre’s 24th season.

MINNEAPOLIS: Pillsbury House Theatre has announced its 2015 season, which will consist of works by Marcus Gardley and Lucas Hnath, as well as a world premiere play by Tracey Scott Wilson.

The first production of the season will be Hnath’s Death Tax, about a dying octogenarian who bribes her nurse to keep her alive (Mar. 6–Apr. 5, directed by Hayley Finn). Next up will be The Gospel of Lovingkindness by Gardley, which follows the lives of two young men living in Chicago’s South Side (May 29–June 28, directed by Marion McClinton). Finally, Wilson’s Prep (Sept. 18–Oct. 18, directed by Noël Raymond) is a commission from the theatre through the 2014 Joyce Awards. It deals with the racial and sexual fallout of an incident, based on local events, in which a group of teachers altered their students’ test scores. Wilson spent a month in the Twin Cities in early 2014 interviewing community members for the play.

Founded in 1992, Pillsbury House Theatre specializes in “creating challenging theatre to inspire choice, change and connection.” The theatre is part of human services organization Pillsbury United Communities, dedicated to strengthening Minneapolis through community building.
