Offscript: Bring Your Own Boat!

It’s the New Year’s Eve edition of Offscript! We look at the big theatre headlines of 2014, as well as the shows that we loved.

Every other week, the editors of American Theatre curate a free-ranging discussion about the lively arts.

It’s the New Year’s Eve edition of Offscript. There are no guests this week, instead editors Rob Weinert-Kendt, Suzy Evans and Diep Tran look back on 2014 and what all went down. We reminisce about gender parity, artists compensation, the theatres that closed and that time a theatre rewrote Hands on a Hardbody.

Also, we look back on shows that we loved. Suzy reminiscences fondly about Burning Bluebeard from the Ruffians in Chicago, These Paper Bullets at Yale Repertory Theatre and The Christians at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Diep gives shout-outs to Bootycandy at Playwrights Horizons and Jeff Stark’s site-specific Dreary Coast. And Rob shares his love for Broadway musicals On the Town and The Last Ship, as well as Fortress of Solitude at the Public Theater and Ghost Quartet from Dave Malloy.

What a year! Goodbye 2014!
