Maltz Jupiter Season to Offer Mystery, Music and Nixon

The South Florida theatre’s 12th season will include ‘The Mousetrap,’ ‘Will Rogers Follies,’ ‘Kiss Me, Kate,’ ‘Frost/Nixon’ and ‘Billy Elliot.’

JUPITER, FLA.: Maltz Jupiter Theatre has announced its 2015–16 season under the header “Another Op’nin’, Another Show.” It will include three musicals (including Kiss Me, Kate, which contains the lyrical inspiration for the season theme) and two plays.

“Our audiences have come to expect a diverse season of play and musical selections that are always reimagined,” said producing artistic director Andrew Kato in a statement. “As a producing organization that creates every element on our stage specifically for our audiences, I look forward to putting together amazing artistic teams—both locally and nationally—to realize our eclectic season.”

The mainstage season will begin with Agatha Christie’s murder mystery The Mousetrap (Oct. 25–Nov. 8). Next is the Elton John/Lee Hall musical Billy Elliot (Dec. 1–20), the about a boy from a blue-collar family who discovers he can dance. The musical revue The Will Rogers Follies runs Jan. 12–31, 2016, followed by Peter Morgan’s Frost/Nixon (Feb. 7–21), based on the post-Watergate interviews the disgraced president gave to journalist David Frost. The season closes with Cole Porter’s Shakespearean backstage romp Kiss Me , Kate (March 8–27).

The theatre will also present a series of special events and concerts, including An Evening with Christine Ebersole (Nov. 21), the Joe Scott Trio doing Jewish Life in Music (Jan. 2), a Bee Gees tribute concert (Feb. 24) and Brenda Braxton: On Broadway (March 30).

In addition, two shows will be presented as part of Maltz Jupiter’s Kids Korner Series: Click Clack Moo (Oct. 9), a farm-house musical, and Henry and Mudge (April 28), about a boy and his dog.

Students from the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts will also present five productions, starting with The Best of Broadway Musical Revue on Dec. 30, then going on to the fairy tale-themed Ever Happily After (April 30–May 1), Cole Porter’s Anything Goes (May 13–May 14), Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty’s Seussical (June 24–25) and Disney’s Little Mermaid, Jr. (July 29–July 30), a youth-scaled version of the Broadway show by Alan Menken, Glenn Slater, Howard Ashman and Doug Wright.
