Cincinnati Shakespeare Season an Ensemble-Driven Slate of History, Romance

In kicking off the Bard’s ‘Henry VI’ trilogy and closing with a Caesarian double bill, the troupe puts its ensemble talent front and center.

CINCINNATI, OHIO: Cincinnati Shakespeare Company has announced its 2015–16 season, featuring its resident company of actors, many returning in serial roles.

After a pre-season, non-subscription presentation of the popular The Complete History of America (Abridged)* (July 24–Aug. 15), the season puts its best nose forward with a staging of Cyrano de Bergerac (Sept. 11–Oct. 3), featuring longtime resident ensemble member Jeremy Dubin in the title role. Cincy Shakes will use Anthony Burgess’s adaptation of the Rostand classic.

Another longtime resident actor, Bruce Cromer, headlines Arthur Miller’s American tragedy Death of a Salesman (Oct. 16–Nov. 7). And kicking of the Shakespeare portion of the season is As You Like It, featuring resident ensemble member Sara Clark as Rosalind (Nov. 20–Dec. 12).

CSC’s special holiday offering, for the 10th year running, will be Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!)*, which will run Dec. 16–27.

The new year begins with Henry VI, the first installment of Shakespeare’s trilogy about the troubled monarch (Jan. 22–Feb. 13, 2016), which will feature key ensemble members in recurring roles in the future. Next is Jon Jory’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s delightful matchmaking parable Emma (Feb. 26–Mar. 26, 2016).

The season concludes with a decidedly Roman one-two punch, with a bonus for attentive audience members, as Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Antony and Cloepatra will feature several ensemble members in correlating roles in each. Caesar runs Apr. 8–May 7, 2016, and A&C runs May 13–June 4, 2016.
