Triad Stage Season to Include World Premiere Musical ‘Radiant Abundant’

Triad Stage’s nine productions highlight music, comedy, drama and mystery.

GREENSBORO, N.C.: Triad Stage has announced its 2015–16 season, its 15th. On the slate will be the world premiere of Radiant Abundant, a new musical by Triad’s cofounding artistic director, Preston Lane, and local songwriter Laurelyn Dossett.

The season kicks off with Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Aug. 23–Sept. 20). Next is the 1999 Pulitzer winner, Margaret Edson’s Wit (Sept. 30–Oct. 18), about an English professor diagnosed with cancer.

Ira Levin’s Deathtrap (Oct. 18-Nov. 8) follows. This mystery tells the story of a playwright and professor who, after experiencing  a series of flops, stumbles upon his next hit—with the slight problem that it’s written by one of his former students.

To bring in some holiday cheer, the tunes of the region will provide the soundtrack for Lane and Dossett’s Beautiful Star: An Appalachian Nativity (Nov. 27–Dec. 24). Playing simultaneously is that Triad’s traditional of A Christmas Carol (Nov. 27–Dec. 24).

The male-dominated world of NASCAR racing is thrown for a loop when Holly “Legs” Nelson enters the competition in Vrooommm!, a new play by Janet Allard (Jan. 27–Feb. 14, 2016).

Next is Lane and Dossett’s Radiant Abundunt (Feb. 21–March 13, 2016), set in the art world. The multipronged story follows a collector who finds a new artist, a woman who wants to build her home in an uncommon place, two women who are looking for a missing family member and an artist struggling with her own secrets.

August Wilson’s Pulitzer-winning Fences (April 10–May 1, 2016) is next, about a retired Negro League baseball player working as a garbagemen while his son rises as a high school football star and a secret from his past emerges.

A notorious womanizer closes out season with Moliére’s Don Juan (June 5-26, 2016).
