True Colors Theatre Company Announces 2015-16 Season

The Atlanta theatre’s season will feature three shows from Lydia Diamond, David Mamet and Will Power.

ATLANTA: Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company has announced its 2015–16 season, made up of three shows from Lydia Diamond, David Mamet and Will Power.

First up will be Diamond’s Smart People (Oct. 27–Nov. 22), in which four Harvard students collaborate for a study of the human brain’s response to race, social class and self-identity. Artistic director and cofounder Kenny Leon will direct.

Next is Mamet’s American Buffalo (Feb. 9–March 6, 2016), directed by John Dillon, who directed Race during True Color’s 2013–14 season. This contemporary classic follows three swindlers out to rob a man of his coin collection, which includes a supposedly valuable buffalo nickel.

Closing out the season will be Fetch Clay, Make Man (July 12–Aug. 2, 2016) by Will Power, which tells the story of the unlikely real-life friendship between the champion boxer Cassius Clay (before he became Muhammad Ali) and the Hollywood star Stepin Fetchit, whose real name was Lincoln Perry. Jasmine Guy, who’s acted in a number of True Colors productions, will direct.

Kenny Leon and Jane Bishop founded True Colors Theatre Company in 2002 to focus on African-American voices, as well as diverse interpretations of classic and modern plays.
