It’s All in the Family With Seattle Shakespeare’s 2015-16 Season

Works by Shakespeare, Brecht and Shaw fill the slate under the title ‘Bloodlines.’

SEATTLE: Seattle Shakespeare Company has announced its 2015–16 season, centered on the theme of family and titled “Bloodlines.” It is the theatre’s 25th season.

“The programming for this season merged around the idea of family in its many forms” said George Mount, the company’s artistic director, in a statement. “Everyone has a different reaction when you say the word ‘family.’ We first learn about the world through our families, and then discover that other families are not quite like our own. In these plays, people go to extreme measures to find, protect, and love their family members.”

First is Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors (Sept. 16–Oct. 11), about twins separated by a shipwreck and reunited after much confusion. Jane Nichols directs.

Changing gears, next is Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children (Oct. 27–Nov. 22), about an entrepreneurial woman trying to balance work and family in a warzone. It will be directed by Jeff Steizer.

Shakespeare’s gory Titus Andronicus (Jan. 12–Feb. 7, 2016) follows, with direction by David Quicksall.

George Bernard Shaw’s story of a mother and daughter’s survival, Mrs. Warren’s Profession (March 22–April 17, 2016), is next. Victor Pappas directs.

Closing the season will be Shakespeare’s most well-known classic, Romeo and Juliet (May 4–May 22, 2016), with direction by Vanessa Miller.
