A Noise Within Announces Another Season of Classics

The slate ranges from Feydeau to Pirandello, Shakespeare to Shaw, plus Miller and a new adaptation of Anouilh’s ‘Antigone.’

PASADENA, CALIF.: Classical theatre company A Noise Within has announced the lineup for its 2015–16 season, its 24th. The seven-play slate is grouped under the  theme of “Breaking and Entering.”

“As a recurring thematic element, breaking and entering symbolizes breaking down the walls of ignorance or fear and summoning the personal courage to embrace a greater sense of truth,” said producing artistic director Geoff Elliott in a statement. “These plays are inhabited by characters who do just that.”

The season opens with Feydeau’s Paris-set farce A Flea in Her Ear (Sept. 6–Nov 22), which ANW last produced in its 2004–05 season. Next will be Jean Anouilh’s Antigone, in a world-premiere adaptation by resident artist Robertson Dean (Sept. 20–Nov 20). Then it’s Arthur Miller’s Tony-winning critique of the American Dream, All My Sons (Oct 11–Nov 21).

The holidays will usher in a production of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol (Dec. 5–23), an annual tradition now in its fourth year at the company.

The first production of the new yearwill be Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (Feb 14–May 8, 2016). Shaw’s family comedy You Never Can Tell (March 6–May 15, 2016) will follow. Then it’s Six Characters in Search of an Author by Luigi Pirandello (March 22–May 8), a fourth-wall-breaking comedy about the playmaking process.
