NEW YORK CITY: Tectonic Theater Project, the incubator of such socially conscious works as The Laramie Project, I Am My Own Wife and The Tallest Tree in the Forest, has named Lauren Wainwright its new executive director. Wainwright comes to the company from a post as the managing producer of the Foundry Theatre. She replaces interim executive director Tiffany Redmon and will start her new job on May 6.

“I am thrilled to join [artistic director Moisés Kaufman], the board and the staff at this significant time for Tectonic,” Wainwright said in a statement. “This is a remarkable organization. The laboratory that Tectonic has created for the development of rigorous new works has impacted artists and audience communities alike, not only through the company’s experiments with theatrical form but also by its creation of socially relevant plays that inspire.”

Wainwright is a former corporate lawyer, serving as the vice president and associate general council for Goldman Sachs. Prior to the Foundry, Wainwright worked as associate managing director of Yale Repertory Theatre, general manager of the Yale Institute for Music Theatre and Yale fellow at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago.

“Lauren brings an impressive set of experiences, skills and accomplishments that we are enormously excited about,” said Kaufman, Tectonic’s cofounder and artistic director in a statement. “She has the drive, the skills and the leadership abilities to help us continue fulfilling our mission to develop innovative works about the human, political and social issues that affect us all.”
