Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Announces 2015–16 Season

The company celebrates its 30th season with a mix of new plays, classic tales and a musical.

CINCINNATI, OHIO: Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati has announced its 2015–16 season with a roster including four regional premieres, a musical and a modern retelling of Cinderella.

The season begins with the regional premiere of Rebecca Gilman’s Luna Gale (Sept. 8–27), about a social worker who sparks a family conflict.

Next is the regional premiere of Jonathan Tolins’s Buyer and Cellar (Oct. 13–Nov. 1). Nick Cearley will star as Alex More, an out-of-work actor who takes on the odd job of working in Barbra Streisand’s basement mall.

Just in time for the holidays will be Cinderella (Dec. 2–Jan. 3, 2016), with a book by Joseph McDonough, lyrics by David Kisor and music by Fitz Patton.

Following will be the regional premiere of George Brant’s one-woman show Grounded (Jan. 26–Feb. 14, 2016), about a fighter pilot reassigned to operating drones.

Another regional premiere (March 22–April 10) is yet to be announced.

To close out the season will be the musical Violet (May 3–22, 2016), with music by Jeanine Tesori and libretto by Brian Crawley. The gospel-influenced musical tells the story of a young woman’s quest to find beauty after a disfiguring childhood accident. This production is a remounting of ETC’s 1999 production.
