Pillsbury House Names 3 Naked Stage Fellows

Marisa R. Carr, Junauda Petrus and Eliza Rasheed will develop new work in the theatre’s seven-month development program.

MINNEAPOLIS: Pillsbury House Theatre has announced its 2015 Naked Stage artists, who will be part of a seven-month development program for original work that providing financial support and mentorship. This year’s recipients are Marisa R. Carr, Junauda Petrus and Eliza Rasheed.

“The caliber of applications continues to strengthen each year, affirming the rich diversity of performance makers we have locally,” said director Molly Van Avery in a statement. “Through Naked Stages, we hold the container that allows artists to create innovative, provocative and exciting performances that benefit them and audiences.”

Marisa R. Carr is a composer, playwright and activist named by Lavender Magazine “Best New Political Playwright.” For the development program, she will create a performance piece inspired by her father, a police officer. Cop’s Kid will explore the criminal justice system in terms of both victimization and complicity.

Junauda Petrus is a dancer, writer and aerial artist. As part of her program, she will install artistic and ritualistic spaces inspired by the women ancestors of her family.

Eliza Rasheed is an actor, dancer, playwright and director who will be creating Journey, a multilingual exploration of discovery including physical theatre, dance and storytelling. Rasheed will be using her perspective as an Asian multiracial woman to guide her work for the seven month program.
