New England Foundation of the Arts Announces Six Grant Recipients

Six grants have been given to support the development, production, and touring of artist-led, ensemble, and devised new works.

BOSTON: The New England Foundation of the Arts (NEFA) announced six new grants offering a total of $630,000 to the National Theater Project (NTP) in support of the development and touring of new theatre works.

“We are proud to be supporting these ambitious, inspiring, and deeply relevant theatre projects with creation and touring support,” said executive director Cathy Edwards in a statement. “We give special thanks to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for their visionary commitment to ensuring that artists and ensembles working in complex forms and with diverse aesthetics are resourced to make new work and to bring that work to communities across the U.S.”

Recipients will receive grant money for the creation and touring of a new theatre work, in addition to $10,000 towards capacity building. The grantees are Andrew Ondrejcak and the Office of the Interior of Brooklyn, for Elijah Green; Junebug Productions of New Orleans for Gomela/to return: Movement of our Mother Tongue; Marc Bamuthi Joseph of San Francisco for /peh-LO-tah/; Martha Redbone/Blackfeet Productions  of Brooklyn for BONE HILL; Stein | Holum Projects of San Diego for The Wholehearted; and Taylor Mac/Nature’s Darlings of New York City for A 24-Decade History of Popular Music.

NEFA has granted more than $4.3 million in support of 37 new theatre works, which toured over 29 states since 2010.
