The Obie-winning director will succeed longtime leader Jonathan Moscone at the 42-year-old company.

ORINDA, CALIF.: California Shakespeare Theater has announced that Eric Ting will be the company’s new artistic director, succeeding Jonathan Moscone, who completed his 16-year career there with the opening of The Mystery of Irma Vep last week. The appointment announcement comes after an extensive seven-month national search for a new artistic director.

“The board is delighted to be welcoming Eric Ting to Cal Shakes,” said President Jean Simpson in a statement. “We met some extraordinary candidates during this search process, but ultimately Eric rose to the top.”

Ting is an Obie-winning director who has dedicated his career to the development of new and diverse voices in theatre. Ting has directed at Manhattan Theatre Club, Soho Rep, the Public Theater, Hartford Stage, and Alliance Theater. He also served as associate artistic director at Long Wharf Theatre for eight of his 11 seasons with the company.

“I am profoundly honored to join this remarkable organization whose mission and programming both on and off its stage so thoroughly embody what I believe a theater can and must be today,” Ting said in a statement.

Ting will assume his official duties as Cal Shakes artistic director Nov. 1.
