Windy City Playhouse Announces 3 Plays for 2016 Season

The theatre’s second season is bookended by two Chicago premieres.

CHICAGO: Windy City Playhouse has announced its 2016 season, including plays by Nell Benjamin, Melissa James Gibson, and Jeff Daniels.

“Following the buzz of our 2015 premiere, the playhouse has selected a sizzling second season—three more plays that all reflect a unique interpretation of ‘theatre as entertainment,’” said artistic director Amy Rubenstein in a statement. “From period farce, to unromantic comedy, and closing with an enchanting new classic, the playhouse promises another year of highly entertaining, high-quality art.”

The season begins with the Chicago premiere of Nell Benjamin’s The Explorers Club (performances begin Jan. 27, 2016), a comedy about a London-based group of explorers who try to avoid the possibility of international war. David H. Bell will direct.

Next will be Melissa James Gibson’s This (performances begin June 1, 2016), about a group of women whose friendships are tested as they transition into middle-age. Carl Menninger will direct.

Following will be the Chicago premiere of Jeff Daniels’s Apartment 3A (performances begin Oct. 5, 2016), about how a girl’s day is turned around after an enigmatic new neighbor pays her a visit. Ron OJ Parson will direct.
