Offscript: Real Estate with Dean Gladden

Dean Gladden, managing director of Houston’s Alley Theatre , stops by to talk about the theatre’s year-long renovation, and what happens when you’re homeless for a season. Plus: Diep and Suzy debate ‘Hir’ by Taylor Mac.

Every other week, the editors of American Theatre curate a free-ranging discussion about the lively arts in our Offscript podcast.

Associate editor Diep Tran and senior editor Suzy Evans co-host this week, with our editorial assistant Allison Considine. Editor-in-chief Rob Weinert-Kendt is out sick but that doesn’t stop us three staffers from dishing about our November issue on access & ability, that Seattle critic who was selling his press comps on Craigslist, and about some theatre festivals we went to. Plus, Diep and Suzy get into a heated debate about Hir by Taylor Mac.

This week’s guest is Dean Gladden, managing director of the Alley Theatre in Houston. He stopped by to talk about recent renovations at the Alley which caused the theatre to relocate for an entire season; he also told us about Houston’s theatre building renaissance.
