NEW YORK CITY: The Drama League has announced the artists who’ve been selected as part of the 2016 Drama League Artist Residency Program. The program, supported by the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, gives artists the opportunity to develop new work at varying stages with a residency stipend, rehearsal space, and administrative support.

“The Drama League received quadruple the number of applications in 2016 over last year’s cycle, demonstrating a clear need for artists to find a nurturing creative home,” said executive director Gabriel Shanks in a statement. “The 27 selected projects have transformative potential for theatre communities worldwide; it’s our imperative to support them with everything we can so they reach that potential.”

Artists selected with late development projects include Jaki Bradley, Catinca Draganescu, Valentina Zaharia, Wes Granton, Ellie Heyman, Yasen Vassilev, Kay Maschullat, David Mendizábal, and Pirronne Yousefzadeh.

The artists selected with mid-development projects include Katherine Carter, Nathaniel P. Claridad, Christie Marie Clark, Brandon Ivie, Katie Lupica, Maggie Keenan-Bolger, Rachel Sullivan, Michelle Tattenbaum, and Hondo Weiss-Richmond.

Artists-in-residence, who will be working on rough draft projects, include Whitney White and Dayna Taymor.

Many of the participating artists will offer readings, experiments, and insights into their development process at public events throughout the year.
