The Farm Theater Announces 2 New Plays for 2016 Season

The Farm will present two new plays in addition to hosting workshops and new-play development programs.

BROOKLYN: The Farm Theater has announced its 2016 season, including two new plays, along with workshops and other collaborative projects.

The season will begin with Running Into Me (March), written and performed by Vickie Tanner, about her personal struggle to succeed going up in Compton, Calif., told through the lens of various characters from her past.

Next will be Lindsay Joy’s In The Event of My Death (August), presented with Stable Cable Lab Co., about a group of small-town friends who reunite when a mutual friend commits suicide. Padraic Lillis will direct.

The season will also include workshops, panels, and new-play readings. Bullpen Sessions are bi-monthly discussions with theatre professionals about topics in the theatre community, and the first event on Feb. 2 will feature Adam Greenfield, associate artistic director at Playwrights Horizons, and Tessa LaNeve, director of ESPA at Primary Stages.

For the College Collaboration Project, Farm Theater will partner with University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla., and Centre College in Danville, Ky., to commission a new play by Micheline Auger. Both schools will independently produce the play during the academic year, and document the process with students and faculty. The program will culminate in a reading in New York, featuring students from the schools’ productions.

For the Barnstorming Project, Farm Theater will partner with Howard Community College, Carroll Community College, and Prince George’s Community College to develop a new play by Christopher Gabriel Núñez. The process will culminate in a reading in New York.

Finally, the theatre will also host a new play reading series in April, a grad school workshop in October, and three eight-week play development workshops from February to October.
