A Noise Within Announces 7 Shows for 2016–17 Season

The theatre will remount some productions, including ‘King Lear’ and ‘The Imaginary Invalid.’

PASADENA, CALIF.: A Noise Within has announced its 2016–17 season, featuring seven productions. The theme will be “Beyond Our Wildest Dreams.”

“Together our actors, artists, and audience will take a journey through and beyond our wildest (and sometimes simply wild) dreams —the same journey and [producing artistic director] Julia [Rodriguez-Elliott] and I have taken over this past quarter-century,” said producing artistic director Geoff Elliott in a statement.

The season will begin with Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia (Sept. 4–Nov. 20), about a group of present-day scholars who attempt to interpret the lives of people who are long-dead, fusing the past with the present.

Next will be The Maids (Sept. 18–Nov. 12), by Jean Genet, an absurdist play loosely about the famous case of the Papin sisters, a pair of maids who murdered their employer and her daughter in 1933.

Following will be Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid (Oct. 9–Nov. 19), previously produced at ANW in 2011, about a hypochondriac who concocts a scheme to marry off his daughter to a family of physicians.

Just in time for the holidays will be the return of A Christmas Carol (Dec. 2–23), adapted by Elliott from Charles Dickens.

The season will continue with Shakespeare’s King Lear (Feb. 12–May 6, 2017), which ANW also produced in 1994.

Next up will be O’Neill’s Ah, Wilderness! (March 5–May 20, 2017), a coming-of-age comedy about a family grappling with their young son’s indiscretions on July 4th in 1906.

The season will conclude with Man of La Mancha (March 26–May 21, 2017), with book by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion, about Cervantes and his fellow prisoners of the Spanish Inquisition as they reenact the tale of Don Quixote.

A Noise Within, founded in 1992, is a resident company that produces classical theatre in repertory.
