Actor’s Express Announces 5 Shows for 2016–17 Season

The season will feature works by Stephen Sondheim, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Matthew Lopez, Arthur Miller, and Suzan-Lori Parks.

ATLANTA:  Actor’s Express has announced its 2016–17 season, featuring three Atlanta premieres.

The season will open with Company (July 30–Sept. 4), with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth, about a single man in New York City who confronts his perpetual bachelorhood on his 35th birthday. Artistic director Freddie Ashley will direct.

Next up will be Appropriate (Oct. 29–Nov. 20), by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, a dark comedy about siblings who return home to Arkansas to settle their father’s estate. Ashley will direct.

Following will be Arthur Miller’s The Crucible (Jan. 21–Feb. 19, 2017), about the paranoia of witchcraft plaguing the tiny town of Salem, Mass. Ashley will direct.

The season will continue with Matthew Lopez’s The Legend of Georgia McBride (March 18–April 16, 2017), about an out-of-work Elvis impersonator who takes a gig in a drag act when he finds out that his wife is expecting a baby. Portia Krieger will direct.

Next will be Suzan-Lori Parks’s Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3), about a slave named Hero who is offered freedom in exchange for fighting for the Confederacy in the Civil War. Martin Wilkins will direct.
