The New Jersey theatre will be lauded at the ceremony on June 12.

NEW YORK CITY: The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced that Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J., will receive the Regional Tony Award at the 2016 Tony Awards on June 12. The Regional Tony Award, a non-competitive award, is selected from nominations by the American Theatre Critics Association.

“Throughout its rich history, Paper Mill Playhouse has established itself as a foundational pre-Broadway venue for new productions and a welcoming home for world-class theatrical revivals,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, president of the American Theatre Wing, in a joint statement. “We are ecstatic to recognize their dynamic role in the tri-state area theatre community and unwavering commitment to fostering future Broadway audiences.”

Founded in 1938, Paper Mill Playhouse develops and presents new works and classic musicals. Many of the theatre’s productions have launched national tours and gone on to Broadway runs, including Honeymoon in Vegas, Les Misérables, Newsies, and The Bandstand. The programming also includes performer training programs that impact more than 35,000 students each year.
