BRISTOL, PA.: Bristol Riverside Theatre has announced its 2016-17 season, featuring five productions.

“We’ve been blown away by how many requests we continue to get to bring back Always, Patsy Cline so we are delighted to discover another show, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, that features her great songs but delves into her impact from a new perspective,” said artistic director Keith Baker in a statement.

The season will begin with A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline (Sept. 27-Oct. 16), by Dean Regan about the life and career of Patsy Cline. Jessica Wagner will star, and Susan D. Atkinson will direct.

Next up will be Working: A Musical (Nov. 1-20), adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with additional contributions by Gordon Greenberg. The musical, based on the book by Studs Terkel, is about the lives of twenty-six workers in various jobs and their aspirations outside of the office in. The show features songs by Craig Carmelia, Micki Grant, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead, Schwartz, and James Taylor.  Baker will direct.

Following will be Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy (Jan. 24-Feb. 12, 2017), about an unexpected friendship that develops between a Jewish widow and her African-American driver in Georgia between the years 1948 and 1973. Amy Kaissar will direct.

Next will be Jesus Christ Superstar (March 21-April 16, 2017), with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, a rock musical about the Jesus of Nazareth’s last week of life, as told by Judas Iscariot. Baker will direct.

The season will conclude with Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution (May 9-28, 2017), about a man accused of murder, and his wife who can prove his innocence but denies his alibi in court. Atkinson will direct.

Founded in 1986, Bristol Riverside Theatre brings musicals, plays, children’s programming, and educational outreach to Bucks County.
