The Hypocrites Name Regina Victoria Fields as First Logan Fellow

The Oakland native receives the inaugural fellowship for artistic leadership.

CHICAGO: The Hypocrites has named Regina Victoria Fields as the company’s first Logan Fellow. The multi-year fellowship supports women of color interested in pursuing artistic leadership while maintaining individual careers as writers or directors.

For her fellowship, Fields will serve as associate artistic director during the company’s 2016-17 season, as well as assistant director on a production during the season. Fields will also sit on the eight-person advisory artistic council, attend rehearsals, and develop an original adaptation of a classic text with support from the Hypocrites. The Logan Fellowship is a full-time, salaried position.

“I am thrilled to be working with Regina as our first Logan Fellow,” artistic director Sean Graney said in a statement. “Her experience in classic theatre and community outreach makes her a perfect associate artistic director. I cannot wait to start hanging out and learning all I can from her.”

Fields is an Oakland, Calif., native and a graduate of Santa Clara University. She is a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for theatre as a tool for community-building and social change. She is also a trained actress.

The Logan Fellowship program was established by the Reva and David Logan Foundation. “When Sean Graney came to us with the idea of a fellowship based on his stellar directing/adapting techniques, we were skeptical whether The Hypocrites could find an individual to match their unique artistic needs,” Logan Foundation president Richard Logan said in a statement. “We needn’t have worried; Regina V. Fields is clearly a star from the same galaxy and we look forward to her take on Sean’s imprint.”
