The Barrow Group Announces 2016-17 Season

A pair of comedies will be featured alongside Ibsen’s ‘Enemy of the People’ in theatre’s mainstage season.

NEW YORK CITY: The Barrow  Group has announced its 2016-17 season, which will feature three mainstage shows in addition to readings, play festivals, and other events.

“We are thrilled to bring New York audiences three mainstage shows this season as we continue our quest to enlighten and inspire,” co-artistic director Seth Barrish said in a statement.

The season will kick off with Abigail’s Party (Nov. 10-Dec. 3), written by Mike Leigh and directed by Lee Brock. The play originally premiered in 1977 and offers a comedic take of London suburbia in the late ’70s, with parallels to the 21st century.

Next up will be a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Enemy of the People (March 10-April 1, 2017), adapted by co-artistic director Barrish and K. Lorrel Manning. Manning will also direct.

Closing out the mainstage season will be Expecting Isabel (June 10-July 1, 2017), written by Lisa Loomer. The comedy tells the story of a middle-aged couple who are trying to have a child, and the couple embarks on an “Alice in Wonderland-esque” journey through the baby business. Barrish will direct.

In addition to its main season, the Barrow Group will host an array of events including a solo show series, a 24-hour play festival (Jan. 2017), a 48-hour film festival (Dec. 2016), F.A.B. Women @ TBG, a playwrights’ Sunday reading series, and student showcase productions.

Founded in 1986, the Barrow Group develops and produced new and existing plays with artists from all backgrounds.
