Catastrophic Theatre Announces 2016-17 Season

The Houston theatre sets five plays for its 10th season.

HOUSTON: The Catastrophic Theatre has announced its 2016-17 season, featuring two world premieres.

The season will begin with Sam Shepard’s Buried Child (Sept. 9-Oct. 1), featuring original music by Geoffrey Muller, about a young man who returns home and finds that nobody recognizes him. Jeff Miller will direct.

Next up will be Song About Himself (Nov. 11-Dec. 3), about a dystopian future in which human beings can only communicate in fragmented ways. Tamarie Cooper will star, and Jason Nodler will direct.

The season will continue with Nick Jones’s Trevor (Feb. 10- March 4, 2017), inspired by the true story of a woman who was attacked by a pet chimpanzee. Cooper will direct.

Following will be the world premiere of Snow White (April 7-29, 2017), by Donald Barthelme, a satiric reimaging of the classic tale. Greg Dean will direct.

The season will conclude with the world premiere of Tamarie’s Merry Evening of Mistakes and Regrets (June 29-Aug.12, 2017), by Cooper and friends. The show is a cabaret featuring Judy Garland covers, dying swans, bedfellows, blunders, heartache, and more. Cooper will choreograph and direct.

The Catastrophic Theatre, founded in 2007, is an ensemble-based company that develops and commissions new work.
