If Chicago Teachers Strike, Lookingglass Has an Alternative for Kids

The theatre will offer drama workshop programs for students affected by the threatened walkout.

CHICAGO: With the threat of a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) strike looming (it’s tentatively scheduled to begin Oct. 11 unless the teachers’ union can reach an agreement with the city), Lookingglass Theatre Company will offer drama workshop programs for area schoolchildren affected by the walkout, based on its Arts Quest and Summergglass Camps. The camps will be open to CPS students in grades K-5 and will include physical theatre workshops, which may include juggling, tumbling, stage combat, as well as storytelling and drama workshops.

Daily camp sessions will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and take place at Lookingglass Theatre, located at 163 E Pearson Ave. The cost will is $65 per day, with enrollment on a first-come, first-served basis. Financial assistance may be available to program participants.

Lookingglass Theatre Company is home to a multi-disciplined ensemble of artists who create story-centered theatrical work. They’ve staged 65 world premieres and received 112 Joseph Jefferson awards and nominations, and received the 2011 Regional Tony Award.
