LOS ANGELES: Echo Theater has announced its 2017 season. The lineup will include three world premieres by Dominic Finocchiaro, Bekah Brunstetter, and Boni Alvarez.

“Each of these plays makes clear once again that, despite time and place and background, simple human contact and the ability to be compassionate and find love is reparative, transformative, and affirming,” said artistic director Chris Fields in a statement.

The season will begin with the world premiere of Dominic Finocchiaro’s The Found Dog Ribbon Dance (Jan. 26, 2017-Feb. 26, 2017), a romantic comedy about a woman’s quest to return a lost dog and her second chance at love. Alana Dietze will direct.

Following will be Bekah Brunstetter’s The Cake (July 1, 2017-Aug.6, 2017) which will feature That 70’s Show star Debra Jo Rupp as a baker who struggles with the thought of making a cake for the girl that she raised who is engaged to another woman. Jennifer Chambers will direct.

The season will conclude with Fixed (Sept. 23, 2017-Oct.29, 2017) by Boni Alvarez. The play centers on a transwoman working as a massage therapist who has a forbidden love affair that catches the attention of the city’s hottest political family. Rodney To will direct.
