Pillsbury House Theatre Announces 2017 Season

The 26th season explores a range of contemporary political and social issues.

MINNEAPOLIS: Pillsbury House Theatre has announced its 2017 mainstage season, including the world premiere of a collection of short plays, an area premiere of a one-woman show, and a Swedish dark comedy.

The season will begin with the world premiere of The Great Divide: Plays for a Broken Nation (April 19-30), five short plays by Benjamin Benne, Alan Berks, Christina M. Ham, Katie Ka Vang, and James A. Williams. These 10-minute pieces address the state of our country post-election, the partisan split, and how we as a nation are responding. Ellen Fenster will direct, and DJ Chamun will write music for the show.

Next up will be the area premiere of Pike St. (May 31- June 18), by Obie Award winner Nilaja Sun. Her solo show is about a Puerto Rican family living in Manhattan’s Lower East Side as they prepare for an imminent hurricane. Ron Russell will direct.

The season will close with Swedish playwright Jonas Hassen Khemiri’s ≈ [Almost Equal To], about a world overrun by numbers and the economy, tackling the meaning of money in modern life. Noël Raymond will direct.
