Rajiv Joseph Receives Horton Foote Playwriting Award

The playwright will receive a cash prize at a ceremony later this month.

NEW YORK CITY: Dramatists Guild of America has named Rajiv Joseph as the recipient of the Horton Foote Playwriting Award. Now in its second year, the award recognizes a playwright whose work explores the nature of being human.

Joseph will be presented with the award and a cash prize of $25,000 at a ceremony on Feb. 27 in New York City. This year’s finalists for the prize were Clare Barron and Cori Thomas.

Joseph’s works include Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010 and was awarded a grant for outstanding new American play by the National Endowment for the Arts. His play Guards at the Taj received a 2016 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Play, and won an Obie Award in 2016 for Best New American Play. His play Archduke will receive its world premiere at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles this April. He has also received artistic grants from the Whiting Foundation, United States Artists, and the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust.
