Shotgun Players Announces 2017-18 Season

The season will feature a lineup of six productions paired with readings and talkbacks.

BERKELEY, CALIF.: Shotgun Players has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring six productions and a reading series.

The season will open with Ingmar Bergman’s Nora (March 16-April 16), translated and adapted by Fredrick J. Marker and Lisa-Lone Marker from Henrik Ibsen, that explores the gender dynamics in A Doll’s House. Beth Wilmurt will direct.

Next up will be David Greig’s The Events (May 4-28), about one survivor’s world in the aftermath of a tragedy. Susannah Martin will direct.

Following will be Brownsville song (b-side for tray) (June 15-July 9), by Kimber Lee, about the troubling statistics of gun violence through the lens of a teenager living in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. Margo Hall will direct.

The season will continue with Madeleine George’s The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence (Aug. 3- Sept. 3), an exploration of four different eras of innovation with inventions ranging from the telephone to artificial intelligence, all with characters striving for connection. Nancy Carlin will direct.

Next will be Sarah Kane’s Blasted (Sept. 21-Oct. 22), about the reunion of a tabloid writer and his former mistress in a hotel room located in a state of siege. Jon Tracy will direct.

Following will be Black Rider- The Casting of Magic Bullets (Nov. 9-Dec. 31), with music and lyrics by Tom Waits and book by William S. Burroughs, about a lowly clerk who needs to prove himself as a huntsman to his love’s father. David Möschler will music direct, and Mark Jackson will direct.

In addition, the company’s programming will include a reading series featuring Sheila Callaghan’s Women Laughing Alone with Salad (April 17-18); Geetha Reddy’s adaptation of Dickens’ Two Cities (July 10-11); Eleanor Burgess’s The Niceties (Aug. 28-29); Kiss (Jan 8-9, 2018) by Guillermo Calderón; and Jen Silverman’s Collective Rage: A Play in Five Boops (Jan 8-9, 2018).
