INDIANAPOLIS: Indiana Repertory Theatre has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring nine productions.
“This season has been specifically selected for our central Indiana audiences of all ages, to invite us to come together as a community under one roof and share in the magic of live theatre,” said executive artistic director Janet Allen in a statement. “This season celebrates our differences, while reminding us that we are deeply connected. We’ll create new, insightful productions of important classics, as well as challenging new work to encourage us to pause, reflect, enjoy, and re-energize.”
The season will kick-off with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Sept. 19-Oct. 14), by Simon Stephens based on the novel by Mark Haddon, about a teenager who is accused of killing the neighbor’s dog and embarks on a journey to solve the mystery.
Next up will be John Strand’s The Originalist (Oct. 17-Nov. 12), about a young, liberal law intern and her clerkship with Antonin Scalia.
In time for the holidays will be Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol (Nov. 18-Dec. 24), adapted by Tom Haas, about Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey in celebrating holiday traditions.
Following will be A Raisin in the Sun (Jan. 10-Feb. 3, 2018), by Lorraine Hansberry, about a family on the South Side of Chicago trying to make a better life for themselves in 1959.
Next will be William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (Jan. 27-March 3, 2018).
The season will continue with Vicki Ireland’s The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse (Feb. 24-March 25, 2018), about a country mouse’s big adventure to the big, dangerous city.
Following will be James Still’s Appoggiatura (March 7-31, 2018), about three weary travelers who find love, loss, and pain on a trip to Venice.
Next up will be another play by Still, Looking Over the President’s Shoulder (March 27-May 6, 2018), about the Chief Butler at the White House who served President Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower.
The season will close with Michael Frayn’s Noises Off (April 24-May 20, 2018), about the backstage shenanigans and onstage disaster that occur when a company attempts to mount a play.
