ETC Establishes David North Memorial Scholarship

The scholarhsip, in memory of the longtime ETC employee, will support students pursuing lighting technology.

MIDDLETON, WISC.: Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC) has established the David North Memorial Scholarship for Lighting Technology at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The scholarship, in honor of the late David North, will provide financial support for students studying lighting technology.

David North.

North served as a senior manager in the technical services department at ETC for 20 years. His latest role at ETC was general manager of the rigging division. North graduated from North Carolina State University with an electrical engineering degree. He was a longtime supporter of the design and production program at the North Carolina School of the Arts, and he mentored interns at ETC.

“He was a helper, a teacher, and one of the most loyal friends I have ever had,” said Sarah Danke, ETC vice president of professional services, in a statement. “‘No’ was simply not a part of his vocabulary. This to me epitomizes David.”

North died in February after a brief battle with brain cancer. A memorial will be held at ETC on March 18, and the eulogy will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.
