Georgia Ensemble Theatre Announces 2017-18 Season

The season will include comedies, musical tributes, and children’s fare.

ROSWELL, GA.:  Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET) has announced its 2017-18 season, including five mainstage productions and a children’s series of shows.

The season will open with Once On This Island (Sept. 14-Oct. 1), by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, a musical love story set on an archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. Ricardo Aponte will choreograph and direct, and S. Renee Clark will provide musical direction.

Next up will be Topher Payne’s Morningside (Oct. 26-Nov. 12), a comedy that follows different generations who come together in Atlanta on a sunny afternoon. Shannon Eubanks will direct.

Following will be Tenderly (Jan. 11-28, 2018), by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, a musical about the life and career of Rosemary Clooney. Alan Kilpatrick will direct.

The season will continue with Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors (March 1-18, 2018). The farce is set in 1930s Paris at a stadium filled with fans awaiting the concert of the century, and the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of mistaken identities and bedroom hijinks. Shelly McCook will direct.

Next will be Buddy (April 12-29, 2018), by Alan Janes, about Buddy Holly’s rise to fame, and featuring his hit songs. Farley will direct.

The FamilyStage series will begin with The Jungle Book (Sept. 16-April 28), adapted by Greg Banks from the book by Rudyard Kipling, about a child who is lost in the Indian jungle and is adopted by a group of wild animals.

Following will be Miss Nelson is Missing! (Oct. 28-March 17, 2018), adapted by Joan Cushing from the book by Harry Allard, about a teacher who disguises herself as a scary substitute to teach her class a lesson in good behavior.

Next will be The Giver (Jan. 13-27, 2018), by Eric Coble, about a young boy who is chosen for special training to receive and keep the memories of his community.

In addition to the productions, there will also be series of big band concerts throughout the season (Oct. 30; Dec. 18; March 12, 2018; April 23, 2018), and a concert version of Ring of Fire, The Music of Johnny Cash (July 13-29).
