MINNEAPOLIS: The Playwrights’ Center has announced the 2017-18 Jerome Fellows, Many Voices Fellows, and the Many Voices Mentee.

“These are seven brilliant playwrights and storytellers,” said producing artistic director Jeremy B. Cohen in a statement. “I feel so moved to share the American theatre field with them, particularly in this moment of national turbulence. These are the artists who will lead our country forward, and whose voices you will continue to hear echo across stages around the country. And we’ll all surely be better for it.”

This year’s Jerome Fellows are playwrights Mia Chung, Jessica Huang, Tim J. Lord, and Tori Skyler Sampson. Each fellow will receive an $18,000 award and $2,000 to support play development. The fellows will develop new work as part of a year-long residency in Minnesota.

The Many Voices Fellowship, awarded to emerging writers of color, will go to Stacey Rose and Minnesota-based Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay. The fellows will each receive an $18,000 award, $2,000 for development funds, and support from the Many Voices coordinator Christina Ham.

Julia Gay will be the Many Voices Mentee. The mentorship is awarded to a Minnesota-based beginning playwright of color. Gay will receive a $2,000 stipend and play development services.
