Company of Fools Announces 2017-18 Season

The season will include four productions, two readings, and a commissioned musical for children.

HAILEY, IDAHO: Company of Fools Theatre has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring four mainstage productions, two staged readings, and a commissioned musical.

The season will open with Aaron Posner’s Life Sucks (June 27-July 19), based on Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, which follows seven old friends as they grapple with life’s biggest questions. John Glenn will direct.

Following will be Bright Half Life (Sept. 27-Oct. 14), by Tanya Barfield, about the relationship between two women over decades. Ilana Becker will direct.

Next up will be the musical Striking 12 (Dec. 12-30), by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin, and Valerie Vigoda, about an overworked New Yorker who resolves to spend New Year’s Eve alone until an unexpected visitor brings some cheer. Becker will direct.

The mainstage season will close with Clybourne Park (Feb. 12-March 10, 2018), by Bruce Norris, about a neighborhood trying to stop the sale of a home to a black family in 1959, and the same neighborhood battling gentrification decades later.

The programming will also include a reading of Tasha Gordon-Solmon’s Pal (October 27), a story told through written letters between two best friends who grew up together. Becker will direct.

There will also be a reading of The Diary of Anne Frank (Jan. 25-28, 2018), adapted by Wendy Kesselman from Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Glenn will direct.

The theatre will also commission Maggie-Kate Coleman and Erato A. Kremmyda to write a musical for children inspired by the Sun Valley Center for the Arts’ visual exhibition on bees, currently called Bee Mini-Musical (April 2018). Becker will direct.

Company of Fools, founded in 1997, develops and produces new work and classics at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
