DALLAS: Undermain Theatre has announced its 2017-18 season, its 34th, which will feature three plays from the female perspective.
The season will open with the world premiere of Matthew Paul Olmos’s so go the ghosts of méxico, part two (Sept. 6-Oct. 1), which will feature an all-female cast. The play is the second in Olmos’s cycle about the U.S./Mexico drug wars, and was developed by Sundance Institute’s Theater Lab, New York Theatre Workshop’s Emerging Artists of Color Fellowship, and as part of Baryshnikov Arts Center’s 2015 Artist in Residence Program. Artistic director Katherine Owens will direct.
Next up will be the Dallas premiere of Annie Baker’s John (Nov. 8-Dec. 3), about a young couple staying at an eerie bed and breakfast in Gettysburg, Pa., owned by an eccentric woman. Bruce DuBose will direct.
The final production will be Sarah Ruhl’s translation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters (Feb. 7, 2018-March 4, 2018), about women dealing with life in a small Russian town. Owens will direct.
The season will also feature a reading series of new American plays called “Whither Goest Thou America?” (April 11, 2018-May 6). The plays, which will examine the American landscape, will be announced at a later date.
Founded in 1984, Undermain Theatre produces innovative work with a focus on poetic and language-driven plays.
