Antaeus Theatre Company Announces 2017-18 Season

The season includes works by Christopher Hampton, Harold Pinter, Nambi E. Kelley, and Patrick Marber.

GLENDALE, CALIF.: Antaeus Theatre Company has announced its 2017-18 season, featuring four productions at the new Kiki & David Gindler Performing Arts Center.

“At Antaeus we’re always grappling with what is it that makes something a ‘classic’ and how we can challenge and broaden those definitions,” said co-artistic directors Bill Brochtup, Rob Nagle, and John Sloan in a joint statement. “Perhaps the most important question we ask is, what does this play have to say to us, a contemporary audience, today? Does the play resonate and surprise us with its timeless insights into human nature? If so, that’s a play we’re interested in bringing to life and which we consider a classic.”

The season will open with Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Oct. 26-Dec. 10), adapted by Christopher Hampton from the novel by Choderlos de Laclos, about a battle between the sexes in pre-revolutionary France. Robin Larsen will direct.

Next up will be Harold Pinter’s The Hothouse (Jan. 25-March 11, 2018), a look at a government-run mental institution where the wardens may be madder than the inmates. Nike Doukas will direct.

Following will be Native Son (April 19-June 3, 2018), adapted by Nambi E. Kelley from the novel by Richard Wright, about a 20-year-old growing up on the South Side of Chicago in the 1930s. Andi Chapman will direct.

The season will conclude with Patrick Marber’s Three Days in the Country (July 12-Aug. 26, 2018), a version of Ivan Turgenev’s A Month in the Country, about a new tutor who brings reckless and romantic desire to an eccentric household. Andrew Paul will direct.

Antaeus Theatre Company, founded in 1991, produces classical theatre in Southern California and partner-casts its productions.
