TCG Announces 2017 National Conference Awardees

The Latinx Theatre Commons, Linda Hartzell, Susan Medak, the William & Eva Fox Foundation, and the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation will be honored.

PORTLAND, ORE.: Theatre Communications Group has announced the theatre leaders who will be honored at the 27th TCG National Conference in Portland, June 8-10.

“Our 27th National Conference’s theme of Full Circle lives in the generosity of spirit embodied by these awardees,” said Teresa Eyring, executive director of TCG, in a statement. “They are renowned mentors and educators, collectives and funders, all forging a more equitable and sustainable future for our theatre field. We’re thrilled to honor their legacies and visions in Portland, Ore., amid our ever-growing circle of theatre people.”

The Peter Zeisler Memorial Award, which recognizes an individual or organization whose work exemplifies pioneering practices in theatre, will be given to the Latinx Theatre Commons in partnership with Howlround.

Linda Hartzell, the artistic director emireta of Seattle Children’s Theatre, will receive the Theatre Practitioner Award. The award recognizes a living artist or administrator whose work in the American theatre has evidenced exemplary achievement over time.

The Visionary Leadership Award, given to an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to advance the theatre field as a whole, will be awarded to Susan Medak, managing director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

The William & Eva Fox Foundation will be honored with the National Funder Award for its leadership and sustained national support of theatre in America.

The Regional Funder Award, which recognizes local funding organizations, will go to the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation of Ore., which funds nonprofit organizations in the areas of performing and visual arts and classroom education.
