SILVER SPRING, MD.: Forum Theatre has announced its 2017-18 season, with three productions tied together with the common theme of “moving forward.”

“Coming out of the campaign and election-focused season, I wanted to think ahead, and back, by looking at plays that ignited conversations about imagining a better world,” said artistic director Michael Dove in a statement. “Performances that ask really big questions in the most intimate of moments.”

The first play of the season will be Love and Information by Caryl Churchill (Sept. 28-Oct. 21). The 60-minute play contains more than 100 characters and explores the question of how to communicate in the digital age. Dove will direct.

Next will be The State by Alexander Manuiloff (winter 2017). The play is about the last night of Plamen Goranov before he burned himself in protest in front of the Municipal Council of Varna, Bulgaria. The audience will take part in the performance as players and co-authors.

In spring 2018, Forum will present Nat Turner in Jerusalem by Nathan Alan Davis. The play is about Nat Turner’s final night in jail, when he is visited by his attorney.

The final production of the season will be announced at a later date.

Forum Theatre was founded in 2003. It produces plays designed to raise social, political, and ethical questions of contemporary life.
