The Acting Company Announces 2016-17 Season

The lineup will feature two plays in repertory that will tour around the country.

NEW YORK CITY: The Acting Company has announced its 2016-17 season, featuring a national tour of two dramas in repertory. The 15-city tour will collaborate with more than 30 universities, colleges, and community partners, and will kick off Jan. 31, 2017 in Phoenix, Ariz.

This year, the company’s touring model has been updated to include three-year residencies with colleges, schools, and civic organizations.

“It’s an exciting, innovative approach that embraces America’s current cultural landscape and better serves the communities we visit on tour,” said executive director Elisa Spencer-Kaplan in a statement.

The tour will include the world premiere of Marcus Gardley’s X, about the assassination of Malcolm X. Artistic director Ian Belknap will direct.

Running in repertory will be Shakespeare’s Julius Caeser, directed by Devin Brain.

In addition, the company has launched the John McDonald Salon Reading Series, which will take place Monday evenings December 2016-May 2017.

The Acting Company, founded in 1972, brings classic plays and new works to under-served communities across the country with its national tours.
