Weston Playhouse Announces Summer Season

A summer season featuring classic plays and new musicals for audiences of all ages.

WESTON, VT.: Weston Playhouse Theatre Company has announced its 79th summer season, including a mixture of musicals and dramas both classic and contemporary.

The season begins with the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Young Company in Junie B. Jones (June 25–July 12), with music and lyrics by Marcy Heisler, music by Zina Goldrich, adapted from the children’s books by Barbara Park.

Following will be Pump Boys and Dinettes (June 30–July 11) by John Foley, Mark Hadwick, Debra Monk,  Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann. The musical takes place along Highway 57 at the Double Cupp Diner, serving up songs of heartbreak and hilarity. Joe Iconis will star.

Next will be Rick Elice’s Peter and the Starcatcher (July 16–25), with music by Wayne Barker, adapted from the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The playful retelling will feature Rose Hemingway, and Michael Beresse will direct.

Following will be Sharr White’s The Other Place (July 23–Aug. 9), a psychological drama about the elusive truth of a neurologist’s career. Susan Haefner and David Bonanno will star.

Next is Guys and Dolls (July 30–Aug. 22), with a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and music and lyrics by Frank Loesser. The musical will feature Sean Palmer, Sam Lloyd Jr. and Marissa McGowan.

Following will be Cass Morgan’s The Road to Where (Aug. 13–30), about Morgan’s journey to Ireland to discover her family’s history through song.

Tennessee Williams’s The Glass Menagerie (Aug. 27–Sept. 5), starring Amy Van Nostrand, will travel after its Weston run to Burlington’s Flynn Center and then to Florida’s Gulfshore Playhouse.
