Detroit Repertory Theatre Announces 2015–16 Season

The theatre slates a new play by Emory Wilson alongside regional premieres by Richard Strand, Fengar Gael, and Dan McCormick.

DETROIT: Detroit Repertory Theatre has announced its 59th season, with three plays including a world premiere and two regional premieres.

The season begins with the world premiere of Emory Wilson’s Herb the Green Knight (Nov. 5—Dec. 27), about a sugar maker who discovers that climate change is affecting the production of his maple syrup. Harry Wetzel will direct.

Next will be the Michigan premiere of Richard Strand’s Butler (Jan. 7—March 13, 2016), a comedy involving Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler and a runaway slave seeking asylum, and how the two of them changed the lives of 10,000 slaves. Barbara Busby will direct.

Following will be the Midwest premiere of Fengar Gael’s Devil Dog Six (March 24—May 15, 2016), about a young jockey suffering with a serious brain injury from a racing pileup who strives to overcome the sexism and racial prejudices in horse racing. Leah Smith with direct.

The season closes with the Midwest premiere of Dan McCormick’s Homeless and How We Get By (May 26—June 26, 2016), about a homeless man and woman who share a desolate space and a connection between their seemingly unreal worlds. Lynch R. Travis will direct.
