AUSTIN: Fresh from the announcement of its world-premiere-filled 2015–16 season, Salvage Vanguard has named a new managing director: local artist Florinda Bryant. She will lead the theatre alongside producing artistic director Jenny Larson.

“It has been my dream since I was a child to be ‘a professional, successful actress’ and ‘to help run a super awesome theatre company’ (words my grandmother helped me pick),” said Bryant in a statement.

Bryant has served as operations manager for Creative Action since 2005, using performance to inspire and empower at-risk youth. She is also the artistic director of Austin Project Performance Company, supported by the Center for African & African American Studies Department at the University of Texas. She has performed in numerous Salvage Vanguard plays, including In This House, Civilization (All You Can Eat), From the Pig Pile, Bright Now Beyond, and AM I WHITE.
