Stray Dog Theatre Announces 2015–16 Season

A season of musicals and plays is bookended by ‘Dogfight’ and ‘Bat Boy.’

ST. LOUIS, MO.: Stray Dog Theatre has announced its 2015–16 season, including three contemporary musicals and three plays.

The season begins with the regional premiere of Dogfight (Oct. 8—24), with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Peter Duchan, based on the screenplay by Bob Comfort, about three young marines who set out for a night of mischief and debauchery on the eve of their deployment in 1963.

Following will be Buddy Thomas and Kenneth Elliot’s Devil Boys from Beyond (Dec. 3—19), a parody of B-movies and trashy romance novels from the ’50s.

Next is Peter Colley’s I’ll Be Back Before Midnight (Feb 4—20, 2016), about a woman who retreats to an old country farmhouse after suffering a nervous breakdown.

Next will be Hedwig and the Angry Inch (March 31—April 16, 2016), with a book by John Cameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, about a genderqueer singer from from Germany who shares the tale of her botched sex change along with her music as she tours the U.S.

Following is Alan Ball’s Five Women Wearing the Same Dress (June 9—25), about five bridesmaids hiding out at a wedding who are all avoiding the festivities for various reasons.

The season concludes with Bat Boy: the Musical (Aug. 4—20, 2016), with a book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming, and music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe, about a deformed boy in West Virginia.
