NEW YORK CITY: Labyrinth Theater Company has announced its 2015–16 season, which will include two new plays: a world premiere by Aaron Mark starring Daphne Rubin-Vega, and a Mona Mansour play.

“I’m very excited about these plays,” said artistic director Mimi O’Donnell in a statement. “Not only because Labyrinth will be producing the work of two up-and-coming writers with original voices, but also because the plays provide wonderful opportunities to showcase the talents of some of our most illustrious company members.”

Labyrinth will produce the world premiere of Empanada Loca (Sept. 30–Nov. 8), written and directed by Mark. The one-woman play will feature Labyrinth company member Daphne Rubin-Vega as Dolores, a woman who lives in an abandoned subway tunnel. The story is inspired by the legend of Sweeney Todd.

February 2016 will bring the New York premiere of Mansour’s The Way West, about a mom waiting for the bankruptcy on her house to come through, and two daughters who come to help. Company member Deirdre O’Connell originated the role of Mom at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and will reprise the part at Labyrinth.

Labyrinth will announce additional 2015-16 programming at a later date.
