Mark Shanda Named President of USITT

Shanda has served as the president-elect since January 2014, and will now assume to the top spot.

SYRACUSE, N.Y.: Mark Shanda has been appointed as the new president of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) for a three-year term. Shanda served as the president-elect for the past year, and will serve in his new role as president through 2018, when he will become the immediate-past president. He succeeds Lea Asbell-Swanger.

ShandaShanda has had a longstanding history with USITT since 1986, as a member, board member, and vice president for publications. He also received a USITT Fellow of the Institute award in 2012. Shanda received his B.A. in political science and speech/theatre from Iowa State University, and received an MFA in theatre technology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shanda was a professor at Ohio State University for 30 years, where he served as the chair of the department of theatre and as the dean of arts and humanities. He will continue to oversee Ohio State University’s ongoing $200 million Arts District Project to expand the music school and the Wexner Center for the Arts. He is the co-author of Drafting for the Theatre and the upcoming Technical Management for the Performing Arts: Utilizing Time, Talent and Money.
