Virginia Theatres Honored at Richmond Critics Circle Awards

Virginia Repertory Theatre, 5th Wall Theatre, and TheatreLAB were among those rewarded at the Circle’s 8th Annual Awards Ceremony.

RICHMOND, VA.: The Richmond Critics Circle presented Artsies Awards to local theatres at their 8th Annual Awards Ceremony on Sunday, with top honors going to Cadence Theatre Company and 5th Wall Theatre for their productions of Caroline, or Change and The Human Terrain, which were awarded for best musical and best play, respectively. 5th Wall was also congratulated for its recent production of Carrie the Musical, taking home awards for best direction (Billy Christopher Maupin) and best actress in a supporting role (Grace Mincks).

The ceremony, which was held at Virginia Rep’s November Theatre and based around the theme of “Origin8tors,” was billed as a dual celebration of local playwrights and the award ceremony’s eighth anniversary. Richmond-based actress and singer Georgia Rogers Farmer served as the host for the evening, and a pre-reception and after-party were held at Graffiato, a nearby restaurant.
