LMDA Announces 2016 Bly Fellowship and Grant Recipients

Grant winners include dramaturgs from Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Canada.

NEW YORK CITY: The Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) has announced the recipients of the Bly Fellowships and Grants. Funded by LMDA Lessing Award winner and former board chair Mark Bly, the cash awards support artists expanding the boundaries of dramaturgy.  Bly has pledged to give $100,000 to LMDA to award artists. This year’s recipients are Sarah Elkashef, Sally Ollove, Sarah Stanley, and Kelly Kerwin.

“We continue to be inspired by the imaginative landscape that emerges from the Bly proposals, and this year’s applicants submitted nearly $250,000 in dramaturgical projects,” said LMDA president Beth Blickers in a statement. The grants will be awarded over several years.

Elkashef, of Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal, will receive a $10,000 grant to dramaturg High Z Project, an immersive installation based on the 2011 Nobel Prize-winning discovery of the expansion of the universe.

Ollove, of the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, will recieve a $7,500 grant for Do You Want a Cookie?, a cabaret mapping and performance project in Philadelphia.

Stanley, of SpiderWebShow, will be awarded a $2,500 grant for Digital Creation Studio, a digital studio that hosts collaborators working remotely from various geographic locations.

Kerwin is the winner of the Bly Fellowship and will receive $2,500 for Pop, a series of pop-up performances in Brooklyn that experiment with audience participation.
