TOPANGA, CALIF.: Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum has set the lineup for its 2016 summer season, which will contain four classic plays, and a world premiere musical. All five shows will run in repertory.
The repertory season will kick off with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (July 4–Oct. 2). Artistic director Ellen Geer will set the play in East Jerusalem.
This summer will also mark the theatre’s 10th annual production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (June 5–Oct. 2), directed by Melora Marshall.
The world premiere of TOM (June 18–Oct 2), an adaptation with music of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s classic novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, will open next. Geer wrote and will direct the show.
Constance Congdon’s adaptation of Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid (July 9–Oct 2) will open next. Geer will play Madame Argan and Alan Blumenfeld will play Dr. Purgeon.
The final play of the season will be Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus (July 30–Oct. 2), directed by Geer.
Founded in 1973, Theatricum Botanicum presents classics, socially relevant plays, and education programs at its outdoor stage in Topanga Canyon.
